Okay. Telephone works. Voice mail works. House warming party is over. Will I join the spirit of Christmas and forgive Telus? No. Sorry God.

The housewarming was well attended, and much food was consumed. Luckily, due to the stomach virus I've been fighting since last Thursday, not much of it stayed in my system long enough to do any damage. And you'd think rum would kill it off... hmm, maybe the eggnog part was a bad idea...

Speaking of stomach bugs, I suspect it's Pete's Christmas present come early. Thanks mate. At least it wasn't three hours of belching ass melodies whilst on a squatter in a lurching Royal Thai 3rd class rail car. For once I was glad I wasn't in Thailand.

Home in Alberta now, visiting the folks. It's -12 here. No snow. Cold without snow=waste of cold. I wish I was in Thailand. Well, maybe Australia. Mmmmmm, Uluru at mid-day. Stake me down and paint me with butter.

Dad is big into model ship building now, and an avid E-bay-ite. He bought a model from a guy in Richmond and I brought it back with me last night. Flew West Jet. I like West Jet. Except the box the model ship kit was in, with a big "Fragile" tag on it, came hustling down the ramp at the baggage carousel, as opposed to being gently placed at the fragile baggage counter by a guy named Lenny with headphones and a high-vis vest, which is where it was supposed to be delivered. I knocked over a grandma and two reindeer to rescue it. It's a good thing they remember which end the gas goes in on the plane.

Pete, if you're 100% against war then is playing RISK ethical? I need to know, and if it is unethical, I will hold a peace rally in every country your brother and sister conquer tomorrow night. Little plastic people with picket signs and bull horns. Until your brother rolls the tanks.

Miss you Rosemary. Miss you Pete. Miss you Kate (call home every now and then, Dad's wondering about the TV). God bless us everyone.

Finally got our phone and ADSL hooked up on Thursday. Had to sprint out to catch the Telus guy, though. Nearly missed him. However, for some reason they can't seem to get our voice mail working, so nobody can leave a message yet. A letter is going to be sent, oh yes it is.

I still wish I was in Thailand.

Still no phone. They assure me that today, sometime after 9:00am, I can arrange a service appointment for this morning. ADSL is still in the wings somewhere. I'm leaving for a week to Vernon and Kelowna next week, so I doubt it will be anytime soon. Bastards. Damn them and their cutbacks. The new place had a leak in the sprinkler fixture over the washer/dryer. It's been fixed, but now we have a hole over the washer/dryer. That will be fixed soon as well. I like my building manager a hell of a lot more than Telus. Telus told us that they weren't a monopoly. So, we asked them to direct us to another company that might provide us with phone service. They didn't laugh. I did. A bitter laugh.

Is it wrong to hate TELUS a lot? They can't even hook up a phone these days. Luckily they've thoughfully relocated the department that looks after this stuff to Alberta. Some things don't work remotely, like, um, I don't know, service calls? Doesn't surprise me that they can't talk too each other if they're handling their own communications. Day 4 without phone or ADSL (which I'm paying for). A nasty letter is in the works. Plus Rosemary's going to call them. I don't know which is worse...

New adventures indeed! Friday's move went smooth as silk. Except for Telus messing up, and we still don't have phone service. Apparently there's trouble with the wires as it's a new buildling. And U-Haul moving themselves across town without notifying their customers, causing a last minute panic of "Where the hell's the truck?". Oh well, as Pete would say, it's all good.

The truck was an old Ford deisel 1- ton. The thing kept slipping out of gear at stop lights, so I'd be wiggling the automatic shifter on the steering column until I felt it lurch into gear and go. At least the brakes worked! And to be honest by the next morning I kinda liked the thing. Kinda.

Ryan and Dave and Dave all showed up right on time, and we proceeded to load everything into the truck. Finally out at the new place on campus at 8:30PM (or so), where Chris was waiting patiently. We unloaded in record time, and then settled into the new place for pizza and beer. That's after the pizza guy spent half an hour trying to find the place. Apparently our new address isn't on the maps yet.

Saturday morning we cleaned our old place and gathered the last of our things. Keys handed in, damage deposit returned, we bid a fond goodbye to 610 Jervis and had a crepe on Robson Street to clebrate (Pete knows the place).

We're now mostly unpacked; washing, cooking and sleeping in our new home. Except that the washer/drier doesn't seem to be working. I'm beginning to feel like Ian and getting the new building jitters. I have visions of plugs on the wall behind the washer/drier with no wires attached to them on the other side. Same with the phone jacks. Anyway, we should be ready for our first visitors this Wednesday - Kirsten and co.!

Many thanks to Ryan, Dave A., Dave H., Chris P., and Arwyn (better late than never, but her car had been towed) for all of their help. We're truly blessed with good friends.
