My foot has finally returned to a more rational size, and Rosemary and I are now reunited, and her trip to Telegraph was the same busy round of visiting and chores around the home that I experienced. With a few differences. I didn't split firewood, pull fish from the river, go get smoked salmon from a local elder, or have to cover up from head to toe to avoid being eaten alive by mosquitoes while weeding the garden. But I did get stung by a wasp (see blog below). Anyway, I met up with her family in Cranbrook and we were all able to celebrate her sister's graduation from her LPN course, which she passed with flying colours (congrats Ellen!).

On the road again, this morning we went for a short run here in Fruitvale. Yes, not only will the Fruitvale Mountain Music Festival soon be upon us, but it's also the new home town for my sister. We're enjoying a short visit here (but sadly will miss the musical festivities two weeks from now). A hearty round of indoor painting and outdoor house washing has helped the settling-in period (we hope).

One more day here and then it's back to Vancouver after almost a month on the run - who says the traveling and adventures have to stop? How about the Juan de Fuca trail for the long weekend?

Yikes, a month goes by quickly when you're not doing something exciting everyday! Methinks this suggests the reason that despite work's drudgery the years seem to be going by quicker and quicker. We've been visiting up a storm, from weddings (congrats Ryan and Jam) to the latest births (congrats Mark and Brenda) to reconnecting with friends and family we've not seen for some time. There was so much visiting to be done we had to split up to accomplish it all! We've now been apart for about two weeks - the longest we'd been apart before this was for four hours!

After eight and a half months of traveling and worrying about disease and infection, who would've thought that the most exciting thing would be a wasp sting in Calgary? I was stung Monday morning and drove to my sister's place in Fruitvale, where the swelling began. It progressed throughout Tuesday, until it became apparent that something was more amiss than a strong reaction to the sting. Four hours after hanging out in the Emerg in Trail, and I had my first IV ever, a lovely chilled bag of antibiotics. They left me with an IV pipe in my hand and a nifty design on my right leg to track the infection.

This morning they almost gave me more intravenous antibiotics, but fortunately I'm on an oral antibiotic now and they took the pipe out of my hand. Hopefully that will be enough to right things as I'm meeting up with Rosemary and her family this afternoon!

On a happier note, I'm joyful to announce our own new addition to the family, my shiny new Toshiba Qosmio laptop. All the processing moxie and ram you can shake a stick at, with big fat hard drives and a kick-ass sound system. Ooo la la! Should help us get those all important job applications, masters thesis and CMA projects done in a snap. And a few music and movie hobbies satisfied...
