Fourteen months and five days later and where are we? One block from where we started. The move yesterday from the hotel was fairly flawless except for one broken bottle of Rosemary's Mom's pickled carrots. Luckily, it leaked in the car so I'm sure that the memory of those carrots will be waiting for us every time we come back to the car after parking it outside on a hot day.
Our storage crate was delivered early yesterday morning and when we cracked it open, it was amazingly exactly how we left it. I was dreading some crushed items from a year's worth of constant pressure, or that a blanket of mold would have attached itself to all the fabrics. So far everything has been just fine, and I'm once again proud of my master packing, learned at a young age when my Dad would pack six of us and all of our luggage and picinic lunch supplies into a Dodge Dart for the two day trip to my grandparent's place in Victoria. Now there's a man who can pack.
Once again, after triple assuring us that nothing would/could go wrong TELUS screwed up and our phone is not working. They are an amazingly inept company and why am I still with them? It's the devil I know, that's all.
The new place is big and spacious compared to our old place, slightly different colour scheme and kitchen cabinets built for basketball players. Reminscent of our place on Jervis street with the high ceilings, but with way nicer finishings. It's very modern-urban. The only down side is that it is still a construction zone. Most of the units are unfinished (including a few bits and pieces of our own), plus the courtyard looks like a bomb went off. Oh well, after so long without a home, this is pretty darn good. As soon as we've settled in a little more I'll take some pictures and set up a tour.
A shout out to Pete in Katmandu, who has just returned from a trek to Everest Base camp. Ah, Chomolangma (Goddess Mother of the Snows) for the Tibetans or Sagarmatha (Mother of the Universe) for the Nepalis. A meaningful destination for both of us since our scrambling days in the Rockies. I hope that the tourist trade has not dimmed the experience and I can't wait to see the pictures and hear the stories!
